Vibration monitoring and blasting evaluations
ANS Geo has been providing noise and vibration monitoring services as a firm since its inception in 2005, along with our technical staffs’ experience spanning over 35 years.
Our technical staff have extensive experience in developing project-specific vibration thresholds and limits, preparing blasting, and implementing vibration monitoring programs using remote and actively monitored seismographs for even the most sensitive structures and end-users.
Vibration Monitoring
Ground vibrations can be created by a number of sources, including impact pile driving and hammering, heavy earthmoving equipment, blasting, and demolition. Regardless of its source, ground vibrations can create concerns to structures, equipment, wildlife, and stakeholders.
ANS Geo maintains a number of calibrated, state-of-the-art seismographs to measure vibrations and air blast pressure for structural monitoring. Our team can install seismographs remotely, affixed to buildings, monitoring points, or buried and connected to assets, along with mobile connection to allow for remote inspection and real-time monitoring.
For more robust monitoring, ANS Geo can provide qualified, experienced engineering professionals and technical staff who can complete real-time monitoring, notify appropriate stakeholders on-site, and provide recommendations “in the field” to mitigate vibration thresholds.
Noise Monitoring
Our experienced technical staff are experienced in solving environmental noise control issues. We provide many services including the noise analysis, noise and vibration monitoring and control of noise and vibration for all types of project. We provide sound measurements, acoustical testing and noise surveys, acoustical consulting, noise studies and assessments and predictive noise modeling.
In addition to noise assessments, we provide full-service noise monitoring alongside our vibration monitoring to provide owners, contractors, and stakeholders the data to make important project decisions. ANS Geo is able to provide remote monitoring stations with real-time online data access, audio recordings and sound/vibration level alerts via email and text.
Blast Evaluations
Peak particle velocity and frequency aren’t the only important factors when evaluating blast-related impacts to nearby receptors. ANS Geo’s technical principals have extensive experience in preparing Blasting Plans, Blast Mitigation Plans, and completing blasting evaluation in accordance with US Bureau of Mines RI-8705 and other industry standards.
We have experience with blasting and vibration evaluations for utilities, gas and pipeline assets, transit and transportation, as well as commercial and residential applications. We’re able to conduct field and desk-based evaluations of blasting parameters, including required offsets, predicting peak particle velocity and displacements due to blasting and construction equipment, and determining maximum energy or charge weight to limit impact to nearby receptors.
Expert Witness Support
Our technical principal, Vatsal Shah, PE, Ph.D, has provided expert witness support related to blasting and vibration evaluations to a number of private and public clients.
Dr. Shah’s experience includes evaluation of blasting damage, blasting permitting, review of blasting programs, evaluation of blasting logs, pre- and post blast surveys, and providing technical courses on blasting and vibration assessments.
